Story

O’Barek is a long-bearded dwarf with a twinkle in his eye and a big cylindrical object tucked against his arm. It looks a little like a barrel, so this dwarf might well be a fan of a good drink. Say hello and then continue to his neighbour Nawigator, who stands very close.

History & Significance

O’Barek stands at Księcia Witolda 1 in Wrocław's Nadodrze district. wromap.pl credits Beata Zwolańska-Hołod as the sculptor. The same site lists the appearance date as 1 June 2013. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grow out of the Orange Alternative, a playful, peaceful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has been filling its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.

We found no source explaining the inspiration for O’Barek. The photo shows a cylinder that resembles a barrel and a shop window with lettering behind him, but we cannot confirm any link between them, so we make no claim. No sponsor is documented. wromap.pl spells the name 'OBarek'.
