Story
Ogorzałek i Opiłek share a spot at ul. Świętego Mikołaja 81, a stone's throw north-west of the Market Square. One of the pair wears a wide-brimmed hat tipped over a weathered face and keeps a fat cigar-shaped stub clamped in the corner of his mouth, like a tired sailor after a long voyage. The playful tale is that the two friends always settle on this corner to swap stories, and whoever tells the tallest one gets to keep the best spot. Stop for a moment, and you will see why his half-closed eyes make him look so content.
History & Significance
Wromap.pl credits Beata Zwolańska-Hołod and gives 30 April 2012 as the date the pair appeared. They stand at ul. Świętego Mikołaja 81, right beside the dwarfs Pożarki and Śpioch, which are known stops on the Old Town trail. They belong to the wave of dwarfs that spread through the centre after the first five of 2005, a tradition that began with the Orange Alternative movement of the 1980s.
