Adwokatka

Prusa 1/50

Story

Adwokatka — whose name means 'female lawyer' in Polish — is one of Wrocław's most bookish bronze residents, standing guard at ul. Bolesława Prusa 1/50 in the Śródmieście district. She arrived here in 2017 to represent the CHC law firm, and she takes her profession seriously: tucked under her arm is a stack of legal books and a civil code, ready to argue any case. With a no-nonsense posture and a knowing look, she embodies the city's long legal tradition, standing just a short walk from the historic courthouse district. Adwokatka is also a cheerful nod to the fact that Wrocław's dwarfs cover virtually every profession — even the ones you might need most in a pinch.

History & Significance

Adwokatka was unveiled on 14 October 2017, sculpted by Christopher Podwiński and commissioned by CHC Kancelaria Adwokacka, the law firm whose office stands at the same address. She joins her male counterpart, Adwokatek, who stands near the Okręgowa Rada Adwokacka (Regional Bar Council) at ul. Sądowa 4 — together the pair represent Wrocław's thriving legal community. The dwarf tradition in Wrocław traces its roots to the 1980s Orange Alternative movement, which used absurdist humour and dwarf graffiti as peaceful resistance against communist rule; today over 800 bronze dwarfs populate the city, representing every walk of life.

Fun Facts

  • Adwokatka specialises in family law — if you need a tiny advocate for custody battles, she's your dwarf
  • She and Adwokatek at ul. Sądowa 4 are Wrocław's only legal duo, covering both male and female clients
  • Her name follows the Polish legal title 'adwokatka' — the feminine form used for women who have passed the bar
  • The legal books she clutches are said to bring good luck to law students who touch them before exams
  • She was installed in 2017, over a decade after the original five dwarfs appeared in 2005 — proof that the family just keeps growing

How to Find This Dwarf

From the main Rynek (Market Square), head south along ul. Świdnicka for roughly 500 metres, then turn right onto ul. Bolesława Prusa. Number 1/50 is a short walk along on the left-hand side; Adwokatka sits at ground level near the entrance to the CHC law office. Alternatively, from the Plac Powstańców Warszawy tram stop, walk west along ul. Prusa for about 100 metres — the dwarf is easy to spot beside the doorway.
