Story

Kapitan Jack Port - Captain Jack Port - has dropped anchor at ul. Chalupnicza 21 in Wroclaw's Nowy Port housing estate, where he waits with his parrot for adventurous companions to join him on the next voyage. Wearing a weathered pirate hat and a knowing grin, he is the self-appointed guardian of Wroclaw's first residential marina. According to maritime krasnal lore, if you tap his anchor three times and whisper a destination, he will chart a course for your adventure.

History & Significance

Kapitan Jack Port was installed in February 2016 on the Nowy Port housing estate developed by Inkom, a Wroclaw property developer. The estate - named Nowy Port (New Harbour) - was designed to evoke a nautical theme, with architecture and green spaces inspired by harbour life. The developer held a competition to name the dwarf, receiving 176 entries, and 'Kapitan Jack Port' was the winning suggestion. The installation at ul. Chalupnicza 21 in the Strachocin-Swojczyce-Wojnow district marked the estate's growing community spirit.

Inspiration

The Nowy Port (New Harbour) residential development brought a maritime identity to an eastern Wroclaw neighbourhood, with over 1,000 planned apartments across seven phases built between 2013 and 2023. The developer Inkom used the krasnal tradition to build community spirit, organising a naming competition that engaged future and current residents. Kapitan Jack Port embodies the estate's seafaring theme and the Wroclaw dwarf tradition's ability to give any neighbourhood - however new - its own character and story.
