Story

Ancymonek has the widest grin in the neighbourhood: a head almost as round as a ball, huge pointed ears, freckle-like dots across his nose and a mouth full of big square teeth. In his hands he holds a single jigsaw-puzzle piece, as if he has just found the one that was missing. He sits on a dark stone slab against a white wall, with a bed of grey pebbles beside him.

History & Significance

Ancymonek stands at Wagonowa 2 in the Muchobór Mały district. Wromap.pl names the sculptor as Marlena Zakrzewska and gives the date 17 October 2025, which makes him one of the newest dwarfs in Wrocław. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs trace back to the Orange Alternative, a peaceful, absurdist protest movement founded in the city in 1986 by Waldemar Fydrych, whose members painted dwarfs on walls. Since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.

Inspiration

The jigsaw piece in his hands suggests puzzles, fitting things together or finding the missing part. We found no source saying who sponsored him or what the piece stands for, so we do not claim a meaning. His name resembles the Polish word 'ancymon', an old-fashioned word for a mischievous scamp - that is our reading of the name.
