Story

Ciastus and Amorinek are the sweetest couple in Wroclaw's entire dwarf population. Ciastus the round, flour-dusted baker has been in love with the sprightly Amorinek since the first time she handed him a heart-shaped macaron. They live together outside the amorinio.pl cafe at ul. Wita Stwosza 1-2, just steps from the Old Town Market, where the smell of fresh pastry drifts through the arcade all day. According to dwarf legend, anyone who spots them together and makes a silent wish for love will find their coffee unexpectedly sweet that afternoon.

History & Significance

Ciastus i Amorinek were placed at ul. Wita Stwosza 1-2 outside the amorinio.pl patisserie in October 2012, making them among the earlier commercially-sponsored dwarfs in the city's family. Their location on one of the pedestrianised streets near the Rynek puts them squarely on the main tourist trail.

Inspiration

The pairing of a pastry chef (Ciastus) and a love figure (Amorinek) reflects the brand identity of the amorinio cafe. 'Ciastus' comes from 'ciasto' (dough/cake) and 'Amorinek' from 'amor' (love), perfectly capturing both the taste and the feeling the cafe aims to evoke.

Fun Facts

  • Amorinek reportedly shoots tiny bronze arrows at passing tourists who look hungry.
  • Ciastus is said to smell faintly of vanilla — though that may simply be the cafe behind him.
  • They are one of very few dwarf couples in Wroclaw, making them extra special to spot.
  • ul. Wita Stwosza is named after sculptor Veit Stoss, who carved the magnificent altar in Krakow's St Mary's Basilica.
  • Locals say rubbing Ciastus's tummy guarantees the next cake you eat will taste twice as good.

How to Find This Dwarf

Walk from the main Market Square (Rynek) eastward towards ul. Wita Stwosza — it is just 2-3 minutes on foot from the Rynek's eastern side. The amorinio cafe at number 1-2 is at the arcade. Ciastus and Amorinek stand right outside the patisserie door.
