Story
Dolaruś is the dwarf who cannot stop running with his money. He clings to a lamppost on the Market Square, caught mid-stride with one arm stretched forward and a fistful of dollar banknotes flying behind him. His long beard streams in the wind, and his curly boots kick off the pole. The playful tale is that he is racing to the nearest exchange office before the rate changes. Look up, not down, when you search for him, and see if you can count his banknotes.
History & Significance
Wromap.pl credits Beata Zwolańska-Hołod and lists Dolaruś at Rynek 48. He stands in the thick of the Market Square dwarfs, only about 13 metres from Obieżysmak, a stop on the Old Town trail. Beata Zwolańska-Hołod is one of the key sculptors who shaped the dwarf trail after the first five dwarfs of 2005.
Inspiration
His name is a diminutive of dolar, the US dollar, and the banknotes in his hands make the theme clear. Everyone who has changed money abroad has felt in a hurry, so the joke works for any traveller.
