Story
Farciarz ('the lucky one') lives among souvenirs. In the photo, he wears a floppy hat with a wide brim, has a bushy moustache and long beard, and cradles a big four-leaf clover, with shelves of plates and mugs glowing behind him. Out of all the dwarfs of the Old Town he is the one who guards a shop, and he seems very pleased about it. If you have any luck in your pocket, this is the place to share it.
History & Significance
Wromap.pl lists Farciarz at Odrzańska 39/40, marked as inside a building, by Beata Zwolańska-Hołod, appearing on 9 May 2013. Wikipedia agrees on the address and sculptor and describes the location as a souvenir shop in the Kamieniczka 'Małgosia' (one of the Jaś i Małgosia houses). Wromap.pl also lists a second dwarf named Farciarz, at Piłsudskiego 64 in the Kasyniarze group by Wojciech Nowak from 2009; it is a different statue. The tradition behind Wrocław's dwarfs began with the Orange Alternative, a playful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.
Inspiration
Farciarz is the dwarf of good luck, and the four-leaf clover in his arms is the classic Polish and European lucky charm. The sources I found do not name a sponsor; the shop setting suggests a link to the souvenir shop, but that is not confirmed.
