Story
Futurek looks as if he has stepped out of a time machine, or maybe out of a very old pocket watch. He is small and golden-brown, with a bushy beard, a round helmet-like cap and a flat oval disc held up in one hand. Dwarfs whisper that he is checking whether tomorrow has arrived yet. A tiny plaque on his chest seems to read 'FutureMeds', so he may well be a messenger for something modern.
History & Significance
Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a peaceful, absurdist protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls. Since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them. According to wromap.pl, Futurek stands at Nabycińska 2 and was made by an author listed only as Arkadi. No date of appearance is given. Who commissioned him is not publicly documented, and we could not find a second source for the plaque or its wording.
Inspiration
His name comes from the English word 'future' with the dwarf ending -ek. The photo shows a small plaque on his chest that appears to read 'FutureMeds', which may be the origin of the theme, but we found no source that confirms it. The golden-brown metal looks different from the green-black bronze of many other Wrocław dwarfs.
