Story

History & Significance

wromap.pl lists Kuratorka i Urwis at Świebodzka 5 and names Marlena Zakrzewska as the author; it also has a separate entry for Kuratorka at the same address. We did not find an appearance date or a sponsor in a source we could check. Wrocław's dwarfs trace back to the Orange Alternative, a playful, peaceful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.

Inspiration

In Polish an urwis is a scamp or little rascal, and a kuratorka is a female curator or a court-appointed supervisor of young people. No source we found explains which meaning was intended or who the pair honours, so we leave it there.
