Story

Kyndrylka is a dwarf girl who holds up the whole world. In the photo she stands on her toes with both arms stretched over her head, lifting a bronze globe whose continents are covered in rows of zeros and ones, like computer code. A small bronze heart is fixed to her vest, and fallen leaves lie around her feet.

History & Significance

Kyndrylka stands at ul. Muchoborska 8, according to wromap.pl, which notes that access may be limited by a gate, fence or barrier and names no sculptor and no appearance date. Wrocław's dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; the first bronze dwarf was placed on ul. Świdnicka in 2001, and hundreds have followed since. We found no source that tells who commissioned her.

Inspiration

The globe covered in binary digits and the heart on her vest suggest a message of looking after the digital world with care. Her name resembles Kyndryl, an information-technology company, but we found no source that confirms a link or a sponsor, so treat that as a guess.

Fun Facts

  • The continents on her globe are made of zeros and ones.

  • wromap.pl names no sculptor and no date for her.
  • Her name resembles Kyndryl, an IT company, but no source we found confirms a link.
