Story

Lombardzik is a bearded dwarf with a thoughtful smile, in a pointed cap with a small badge on its band. In the photo he hugs a thick stack of flat objects against his chest, and the name tells you he is a pawnbroker's dwarf, so it may be a pile of valuables or papers. He stands at Krupnicza 3 and also goes by the names Loombardzik and Chary.

History & Significance

Wromap.pl lists Lombardzik (alternative names Loombardzik and Chary) at Krupnicza 3, made by Beata Zwolańska-Hołod and appearing on 27 December 2015. The Polish Wikipedia list gives Krupnicza 3/1-B, names the same sculptor and links him to a pawnshop (lombard). Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful anti-communist protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls. The first bronze dwarf, Papa Krasnal, was unveiled in 2001, and in 2005 the city commissioned sculptor Tomasz Moczek to make five more, which started the collection that now numbers well over 800.

Inspiration

Lombard is the Polish word for a pawnshop, and both wromap.pl's name and Wikipedia's note about a lombard at the address point to a shop theme. What exactly he holds is my reading of the photo and is not confirmed by a source.
