Story

Majster Mahlec is a craftsman-looking dwarf at Świętego Mikołaja 19. In the photo he wears a close-fitting cap and has a stern, weathered face, and he stands beside a tall segmented metal column that looks like a pipe or a machine part. Whatever he is working on, he looks like someone who has done it a thousand times. Lunatyk is only 42 m to the southwest.

History & Significance

Wromap.pl lists Majster Mahlec at Świętego Mikołaja 19, made by Tomasz Moczek and appearing on 22 May 2020. I found no second source for the author or date, and no sponsor. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful anti-communist protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls. The first bronze dwarf, Papa Krasnal, was unveiled in 2001, and in 2005 the city commissioned sculptor Tomasz Moczek to make five more, which started the collection that now numbers well over 800.
