Story

Mała Lady Punk may be tiny, but she walks Łazienna Street like it is her stage. With her spiky tuft of hair, hoop earring and turned-up collar, she looks up at the sky as if waiting for the first chord of her favourite song. Legend says the pavement gets a little louder when she is in a good mood.

History & Significance

Mała Lady Punk is listed on wromap.pl at Łazienna 4 and credited to Beata Zwolańska-Hołod; it gives 24 June 2022 as the date she appeared. I found no second source for the author or date. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful anti-communist protest movement: on the nights of 30 and 31 August 1982 Waldemar 'Major' Fydrych painted the first dwarfs on walls in Sępolno and Biskupin. The first bronze dwarf, Papa Krasnal, was unveiled in 2001 on ul. Kazimierza Wielkiego, and in 2005 the city commissioned Tomasz Moczek to make five more, which started the collection.

Inspiration

The name means 'Little Lady Punk', and the look matches it: in the photo she is a girl dwarf with a pointed tuft of hair, a hoop earring and a turned-up collar, gazing upward. The word 'Lady' is written in red paint on the wall beside her, which is probably graffiti and may not be permanent. I found no source saying who commissioned her.
