Story

Mikronek i Noniuszek can be found at Skrzypowa 1, the Jerzmanowo-Jarnołtów-Strachowice-Osiniec area. The photo on wromap.pl shows Mikronek, a bearded dwarf in a peaked cap with lettering on it, holding a tall metal tool with jaws that looks like a gauge or a spanner; the photo does not show Noniuszek. wromap.pl lists Mikronek and Noniuszek as two separate dwarfs placed 4 metres apart.

History & Significance

No sculptor, sponsor or unveiling date could be found for the pair. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs trace back to the Orange Alternative, a playful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; the city began commissioning bronze dwarfs in 2005, and local businesses and institutions have added many more since. Mikronek i Noniuszek are among the dwarfs outside the historic centre. Who commissioned these dwarfs is not publicly documented in the sources we found.

Inspiration

Mikronek and Noniuszek sound like measuring-tool words: mikron (micron) and noniusz (the vernier scale of a calliper). The tool in Mikronek's hand fits that idea. The sources we found do not describe a specific story behind these dwarfs.
