Story
Podróżnik, the Traveller, has a weathered face, a moustache and a short beard, and he tilts his head back as if he were reading the departure board of the whole world. He stands at Sucha 1, at Galeria Wroclavia, where visitors come and go every day, which is a fitting home for a dwarf who is always on the road. Legend among the local dwarfs says that he has been to every country in the guidebook and still likes best the pavement outside the shopping centre.
History & Significance
Podróżnik stands at Sucha 1, at Galeria Wroclavia. Wromap and Polish Wikipedia both name Grzegorz Łagowski as the sculptor, and wromap dates the dwarf to 17 October 2017. Do not confuse him with another Podróżnik listed at Kiełbaśnicza 20, made by Beata Zwolańska-Hołod. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs trace their roots to the Orange Alternative, a playful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now well over a thousand of them.
Inspiration
Podróżnik is a tribute to travelling and travellers. The sources we found do not say who commissioned him or why he was placed at Wroclavia, and the photo we have does not clearly show what he carries, so we describe only his face and pose.
