Story
Polisludek keeps an eye on Świdnicka street. In the photo he wears a cap with a brim, has a moustache and a bushy beard, and looks up with a calm, watchful expression, as if checking that everything on the street is in order. The name hints at a police dwarf, and he certainly looks like he is on duty. Florianek, the firefighter-style dwarf, is just 66 m to the north.
History & Significance
Wromap.pl lists Polisludek at Świdnicka 33, made by Tomasz Moczek, and gives the date of appearance as 9 October 2019. I found no second source for the author or the date, and no sponsor. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful anti-communist protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls. The first bronze dwarf, Papa Krasnal, was unveiled in 2001, and in 2005 the city commissioned sculptor Tomasz Moczek to make five more, which started the collection that now numbers well over 800.
Inspiration
The name looks like a blend of 'policja' (police) and 'ludek' (little person), and the brimmed cap in the photo suggests a uniform, but no source explains the dwarf's story, so the police link is an inference from his name and look.
