Story

Salonek is the coolest dwarf in this corner of the Old Town. He wears dark round sunglasses, a snug cap and a neat little goatee, and his bronze has aged to a lovely blue-green patina. He looks like he is relaxing in the sun, and a visit to him makes a nice, quiet break.

History & Significance

Salonek stands at Jana Ewangelisty Purkyniego 1 in Wrocław's Old Town. No sculptor or sponsor is publicly documented in the sources we found. The same site lists the appearance date as 9 May 2025. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grow out of the Orange Alternative, a playful, peaceful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has been filling its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.

Inspiration

'Salon' means a lounge or a showroom in Polish, and 'Salonek' is its small form, but we found no source saying what, or whom, he represents. No sculptor or sponsor is documented. The sunglasses and the relaxed look are what the photo shows.
