Story

TynQus is the hardest-working plasterer in Wroclaw's dwarf city. He has spent years patching crumbling plaster, sealing cracks and generally keeping the underground dwarf city from crumbling around everyone's pointed ears. He looks a little tired — locals joke that he always does, and that he is never without the quiet dignity of someone who knows a job well done. His secret hobby, which he rarely admits, is sculpture.

History & Significance

TynQus has stood at Sukiennice 6, in front of the Baumit company offices, since 14 April 2008. Baumit is an Austrian manufacturer of construction materials, particularly well known for plaster (tynk in Polish), mortars and facade systems. The dwarf was sponsored by Baumit as a corporate figure representing the company's core product.

Inspiration

The name is a clever wordplay: 'tynk' means plaster in Polish, and the suffix '-us' gives it a Latin/brand feel, while the capital Q is a nod to 'quality' — very much on-brand for a construction materials company. According to his story, TynQus once had to seal the entrances to the underground dwarf city on orders from the dwarf council, carrying out the plastering work that no one else wanted to do.

Fun Facts

  • His name is a pun on 'tynk' (Polish for plaster) combined with a quality-signifying Q — perfect for his sponsor, a plaster manufacturer.
  • TynQus has stood watch at Sukiennice 6 since April 2008, making him one of the earlier sponsor dwarfs in Wroclaw's collection.
  • Despite his tired expression, the dwarf community insists he never misses a deadline and always fills cracks before the weather changes.
  • His secret hobby is sculpture — although he would never admit it publicly, preferring to maintain his image as a practical tradesman.
  • Sukiennice 6 is right in the heart of the Market Square area, which means TynQus has one of the prime pitches for people-watching among all Wroclaw's dwarfs.

How to Find This Dwarf
