Story

Wanda i Rüdiger are a pair of dwarfs in Nadodrze. In the photo of Wanda she sits with her chin resting in her hand and a gentle, dreamy smile, as if she is listening to a long story and is in no hurry for it to end. Sit down for a moment near her and guess what her friend Rüdiger might be telling her.

History & Significance

According to wromap.pl the pair stands at Strażnicza 1/3 in Nadodrze and was made by Beata Zwolańska-Hołod; wromap also gives Wanda and Rüdiger separate entries at the same address. We did not find an appearance date or a sponsor. Wrocław's dwarfs trace back to the Orange Alternative, a playful, peaceful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.

Inspiration

Wanda is a traditional Polish name and Rüdiger a German one, but we found no source explaining who the two dwarfs honour or why they were paired, so we do not guess.
