Story

Zgryzek is a bearded dwarf in a pointed cap who grabs the corners of his mouth with both hands and pulls it wide to show a full row of teeth. The bronze has a green-grey patina, and in the photo he is surrounded by light stones, with grey paving behind him. It is a very cheeky pose for a statue.

History & Significance

wromap.pl lists Zgryzek at Buforowa 34 (52-131 Wrocław), credits Grzegorz Łagowski as the author and gives 16 September 2015 as the appearance date. Polish Wikipedia's list of Wrocław dwarfs also gives the address and the sculptor, and names Ortho.pl next to it. A web search shows that Buforowa 34 is the address of the dental and orthodontic centre ORTHO.PL. We found no source that states who commissioned him.

Inspiration

No source we found explains his name, but the Polish word zgryz means a person's bite, so the name, the bared teeth and the dental and orthodontic centre at this address fit together well. This is our reading, not a statement from a source.
