Story

Abetoniusz can be found at Jerzmanowska 9, the Żerniki district. The photo on wromap.pl shows a bearded dwarf in a hard hat who leans on a barrel-shaped drum on a wheeled frame, which looks like a concrete mixer. He wears a hard hat and has a bushy beard.

History & Significance

wromap.pl credits the sculptor Sebastian Obst; no unveiling date was found. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs trace back to the Orange Alternative, a playful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; the city began commissioning bronze dwarfs in 2005, and local businesses and institutions have added many more since. Abetoniusz is one of the dwarfs outside the historic centre. Who commissioned this dwarf is not publicly documented in the sources we found.

Inspiration

His name looks like a play on beton, the Polish word for concrete, which fits the mixer he leans on. The sources we found do not describe a specific story behind this dwarf.
