Story
Alonka is a smiling dwarf woman with long hair under a pointed hood, her face full of laughter lines. According to wromap.pl she is part of a group called Alonka z dziećmi, 'Alonka with the children', which also includes two child dwarfs. In the photo a tiny fist and ear of a smaller figure peek into the frame at her side. Klaunuś is 15 m northeast of her and Marzenka 20 m northeast.
History & Significance
Alonka was made by Beata Zwolańska-Hołod and stands at Borowska 213, the address of the Jan Mikulicz-Radecki University Clinical Hospital, according to wromap.pl. That site lists her as a member of the group Alonka z dziećmi (Dziecko I, Dziecko II) and gives no appearance date. Wrocław's dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; the first bronze dwarf was placed on ul. Świdnicka in 2001, and hundreds have followed since. We found no source that says who commissioned her or whom she portrays.
Inspiration
No source we found says whom Alonka is meant to represent, so we describe only what is visible: a warm, smiling grown-up with children dwarfs beside her. The group name, 'Alonka with the children', points to a family theme, but the reason for the dwarfs' location is not documented.
