Story

Arkadiusz is a green-patinated dwarf with a cheerful, upturned nose and a shaggy beard. One arm is stretched out wide, as if offering you a handshake, while his other fist rests on his chest. He stands at the foot of a pale wall, and above him, on the glass, you can read the web address www.arka.edu.pl - which tells you exactly whose doorstep this is.

History & Significance

Arkadiusz stands at Stalowowolska 24 in the Gajowice district. Wromap.pl names the sculptor as Marlena Zakrzewska and gives the date 17 October 2018. It also notes that access to the spot may be restricted by a barrier, fence or gate. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs trace back to the Orange Alternative, a peaceful, absurdist protest movement founded in the city in 1986 by Waldemar Fydrych, whose members painted dwarfs on walls. Since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.

Arkadiusz's name begins with 'Arka', matching the web address www.arka.edu.pl visible on the glass behind him in the photo - so he appears to be the mascot of that website's institution. We found no source confirming the sponsor or the story, so we say only what the photo shows.
