Story
Lotnicy are not one dwarf but a crew: wromap.pl lists the group as Lotnik I and Lotnik II. They sit on a small bronze aeroplane with a broad wing, and the plane is loaded with little bundles and cases, as if the pair were about to deliver something important. Kneel down to pavement level and you can spot a small round fitting on the nose and the neat stack of packages on top. It is a cheerful scene for anyone who has ever waved at a plane overhead.
History & Significance
Lotnicy stand at al. Generała Józefa Hallera 52 in Borek. The sculptor is listed as Tomasz Moczek, and wromap.pl gives 20 November 2011 as the date they appeared. Tomasz Moczek is the sculptor the city commissioned in 2005 to make its first five dwarfs of the modern series. The dwarf tradition began in 2001, when the Orange Alternative monument (Papa Krasnal) was unveiled on Świdnicka street, and the city has kept adding bronze dwarfs ever since. The sources I found do not say who commissioned or sponsored them.
Inspiration
The idea is plainly aviation and air travel: a plane, a wing and luggage. The sources I found do not say why this theme was chosen for Borek or who sponsored it, so the exact motivation is unknown. Children usually love spotting the cases and parcels piled on the plane.

Accessibility
Ground LevelOutdoor
In the photo the plane stands at pavement level on paving blocks next to a pedestrian area, so the approach looks flat. The dwarfs are small, so small children will want to crouch or be lifted for a close look.
