Story

Arkopek raises one hand to the brim of his flat cap, as if shading his eyes against the sun or tipping his hat to you. His beard is short and his gaze is thoughtful. Aukcjoner stands almost next door, so you can visit two dwarfs within a few steps.

History & Significance

Arkopek stands at Klemensa Janickiego 1 in Wrocław's Old Town. No sculptor or sponsor is publicly documented in the sources we found. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grow out of the Orange Alternative, a playful, peaceful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has been filling its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.

Inspiration

We found no source explaining the name or idea of Arkopek, and no sculptor, date or sponsor is documented. The photo shows only the hand-to-cap pose, so that is all we describe.
