Story
Aukcjoner has round wire glasses, a magnificent curled moustache and one visible gap in his teeth, and he looks as if he has just spotted a bargain. Beside him stands a huge coin with a portrait on it, so he is clearly ready for business. Do not forget to look at the coin up close.
History & Significance
Aukcjoner stands at Klemensa Janickiego 2 in Wrocław's Old Town. No sculptor or sponsor is publicly documented in the sources we found. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grow out of the Orange Alternative, a playful, peaceful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has been filling its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.
Inspiration
'Aukcjoner' is Polish for an auctioneer, and the big coin fits a trading theme. We found no source explaining what exactly he commemorates, and no sculptor, date or sponsor is documented.
