Story
Budowniczy is a real builder: he wears a hard hat, has a long beard and a broad, satisfied smile, and according to the developer who commissioned him he comes with a crane and tools. He stands by the ATAL Towers buildings on Sikorskiego, close to the Oder. Count how many building tools you can spot around him!
History & Significance
Budowniczy was set up on the initiative of the developer ATAL beside the first stage of its ATAL Towers housing project on Sikorskiego Street; the company announced him in a press release published on 5 April 2017. wromap.pl gives 22 March 2017 as the date he appeared and names Piotr Makała and Marta Mirynowska as his authors. The address differs between sources: wromap.pl gives Sikorskiego 7a, while polska-org.pl places him at Sikorskiego 3-7 by the Oder embankment behind the building. Wrocław's dwarfs trace back to the Orange Alternative, a playful, peaceful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.
Inspiration
ATAL said it wanted its flagship Wrocław project to have its own representative in the dwarf community, and a builder suits a construction company. The press release lists a crane, a hard hat and tools as his attributes.
