Story

Dworzan 3 is the one who is always late, and always running. In the close-up he leans forward with his pointed cap swept back, as if he has just caught sight of the departure board. A heavy suitcase drags behind him, and every bolt and fold of bronze looks caught in motion. If you ever feel in a hurry yourself, stop beside him for a second and breathe.

History & Significance

Dworzan 3 appeared on 1 June 2012 at Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego 105 and was made by Marta Mirynowska, like Dworzan 2; Dworzan 1 is by Tomasz Moczek. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful, non-violent protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has been filling its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them. Inspiration

wromap.pl lists him as "Ciągnący walizkę" (pulling a suitcase), also called Podróżnik (the traveller). His address is the Wrocław Główny railway station. The name Dworzan probably plays on dworzec, the Polish word for station; this is our reading and no source states it. The photo is a close-up, so the suitcase itself is not visible in it.
