Story

Endress i Hauser are two dwarfs, Endress and Hauser, who share one entry in front of a glass-and-white-wall building. In the photo the dwarf has a wide, toothy grin, a bristly moustache and a tall pointed cap, and he holds a flat bronze bar with scratched marks along it, like a measuring rule. He seems to be checking that everything in the neighbourhood is exactly the right size.

History & Significance

Endress i Hauser were made by Piotr Makała and appeared on 4 November 2015 at ul. Wołowska 11, according to wromap.pl, which also notes that access may be limited by a gate, fence or barrier. The Polish Wikipedia list links the group to Endress+Hauser Polska, and the company is listed at ul. Wołowska 11. Wrocław's dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; the first bronze dwarf was placed on ul. Świdnicka in 2001, and hundreds have followed since.

Inspiration

The pair honour the company Endress+Hauser Polska; the two dwarfs carry the two surnames that make up the company name. The bar in the dwarf's hand looks like a ruler or a measuring tool, which suits a company the sources place at this address, but the exact meaning of the object is our reading of the photo.
