Story

Faksymilka copies everything, and she does it by hand. Round glasses on her nose, hat pulled over her ears, she holds a round object carefully in her arms while stacks of what look like paper sheets or books rise on either side. Local dwarfs bring her their secrets and receive a perfect copy back, always with the original returned. Whatever you whisper to her, you may be sure of one thing: she will give back exactly what she was given.

History & Significance

Faksymilka stands at plac Powstańców Warszawy 1 and was made by Tomasz Moczek; wromap.pl lists 10 November 2014 as her appearance date. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful, non-violent protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has been filling its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them. We found no sponsor and do not name one.

Inspiration

Faksymilka comes from facsimile, an exact copy of a document - the dwarf's round glasses and the stacks of papers or books around her fit that idea, though we found no source that states it. In the photo she holds a rounded object and wears a soft hat.
