Story

Festiwaliusz is an artist among dwarfs. He holds a big theatre mask on a stick high above his head, and his beard is long and wavy. According to the city of Wrocław he drums, paints and acts in the theatre, so he fits right in with the stage-loving corner of the Old Town he calls home.

History & Significance

Festiwaliusz stands at plac Teatralny 4 in Wrocław's Old Town. wromap.pl credits Beata Zwolańska-Hołod as the sculptor. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grow out of the Orange Alternative, a playful, peaceful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has been filling its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.

Inspiration

The city's own news page says Festiwaliusz settled by the Puppet Theatre and describes him as an artistically gifted dwarf who drums, paints and plays in theatre. The same page says he invites children to the Wrocław Gnome Festival in the Old Town Garden. The photo shows a theatre mask on a stick.
