Story
Genomek looks like the head of a very serious laboratory, and he is thoroughly pleased with himself. In the photo this long-bearded dwarf wears round wire glasses and a pointed cap, grins broadly and holds a small hammer, with a curved dark piece beside it that I cannot identify in the close-up. He stands inside a building at Powstańców Śląskich 95, about 2.0 km south-west of the Market Square, and his neighbour Perpetuś is only 34 m away.
History & Significance
Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful, non-violent protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls. Since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them. According to wromap.pl, Genomek was made by Sebastian Obst and stands inside a building at Powstańców Śląskich 95. I found no source that gives his unveiling date and none that names a sponsor or the building.
Inspiration
No source I found explains the idea behind Genomek. The photo shows a smiling dwarf with round glasses, a long beard and a small hammer. His name sounds like the Polish word for a genome, but I found no source that confirms this is the intended meaning.
