Story
Perpetuś is a watchmaker with all the patience in the world. In the photo this bearded dwarf in a floppy cap sits hunched on a little stool, frowning with concentration over a round pocket-watch case in one hand while a tiny tool works away in the other. Beside him stand a chest of small drawers and a desk lamp, so his workshop is complete down to the last cog. He works inside a building at Powstańców Śląskich 95, about 2.0 km south-west of the Market Square, and he is not in a hurry.
History & Significance
Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful, non-violent protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls. Since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them. According to wromap.pl, Perpetuś was made by Marlena Zakrzewska and stands inside a building at Powstańców Śląskich 95, which he shares with Genomek and Gwiazduś. I found no source that gives his unveiling date and none that names a sponsor or the building.
Inspiration
No source I found explains the idea behind Perpetuś. The photo shows a clockmaker's scene: a seated dwarf studying a round watch case with a small tool, with a drawer chest and a desk lamp beside him.
