Story
Inforek is the dwarf at the information desk of the street. He rests on both forearms, hat pointed, long beard flowing, with the calm look of someone who knows exactly where everything is. Dwarfs say he can tell you the way to any other dwarf in Wrocław, but only if you ask politely. On the map he is also listed as Inforek Chmuraski.
History & Significance
Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a peaceful, absurdist protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls. Since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them. According to wromap.pl, Inforek stands at Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego 69. The map lists no sculptor or date of appearance, and gives the alternative name Inforek Chmuraski. Who made and commissioned him is not publicly documented, and we did not find another source.
Inspiration
His name is made from 'info' (information) and the dwarf ending -ek. The alternative name Chmuraski seems to come from chmura, the Polish word for cloud, which may point to cloud computing, but we found no source confirming this. The photo shows him leaning on his forearms against a white wall, with a red speckled granite floor.
