Story
Elektroludki come as a pair, Elektroludek I and Elektroludek II, and they live right next to their neighbours, the Notki. In our photo one of them leans on a metal pipe against a pale stone wall, his long moustache curling and his hair swept back by an invisible gust of wind. Dwarfs say they were switched on at the same moment and nobody has found the off button. If you stand very still you might hear a faint buzz.
History & Significance
Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a peaceful, absurdist protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls. Since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them. The Elektroludki were made by Beata Zwolańska-Hołod and, according to wromap.pl, appeared on 5 June 2019 at Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego 74. A search result lists that address as Dom Technika (the House of Technology), but we found no source linking the dwarfs to that organisation. Who commissioned them is not publicly documented.
Inspiration
Their name comes from elektro-, the prefix for electricity, with the dwarf ending -ludki (from krasnoludki, dwarfs). The photo shows a bearded dwarf with a long moustache beside a thick metal pipe or pole. The Notki, another pair listed as Technotki, stand only about 8 m away, and together the two pairs look like a small neighbourhood of technology-themed dwarfs.
