Story
Integracjanek keeps watch over a kindergarten gate, beside a low stone ledge, a green railing and ivy. In the photo this long-haired, bearded dwarf in a pointed cap has a gentle, thoughtful face and looks calmly off to the side, as if waiting for the children to arrive. He stands at the entrance to Integrative Kindergarten No. 93 at Grochowa 15, about 2.4 km south-west of the Market Square.
History & Significance
Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful, non-violent protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls. Since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them. The city's website wroclaw.pl reported on 9 January 2019 that a new dwarf named Integracjanek had settled at the gate of Integrative Kindergarten No. 93 named after Jan Brzechwa, at Grochowa 15. The city's president said Integracjanek keeps up the legend of Wrocław as a city of dwarfs, and that dwarfs accompany special places. wromap.pl credits the sculptor Sebastian Obst and gives the same date, 9 January 2019. Inspiration
Integracjanek was placed at an integrative kindergarten, and the city's president called him a symbol of Wrocław as a city where everyone can feel good. His name comes from the Polish word for integration. On the kindergarten fence next to him are panels with witty explanations of philosophical terms by Jakub Jernajczyk, a lecturer at the Wrocław Academy of Fine Arts, a result of a 2016 citizens' budget project.
