Story
Klaun - the Clown - is arguably the most warm-hearted dwarf in all of Wroclaw. He came to the city with a single mission: to make the young patients of the Clinic for Bone Marrow Transplantation, Oncology and Paediatric Haematology on ul. Odona Bujwida 44 smile. And smile they do. Klaun is a dwarf who turns the hardest days softer with his pranks and funny faces, and who when not busy cheering up children, pops into the main market square to visit his old friend Życzliwek and wave at the tourists.
History & Significance
Klaun was created thanks to a charity auction held by the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (Wielka Orkiestra Swiatecznej Pomocy, WOŚP). The winners of the auction for a dwarf called Dobrotka donated their winnings towards commissioning Klaun, who was sculpted by Beata Zwolańska-Hołod and placed before the Clinic for Bone Marrow Transplantation, Oncology and Paediatric Haematology at ul. Odona Bujwida 44. Together with Marzenka - a female dwarf dedicated to fulfilling children's dreams - he forms a caring pair outside one of Wroclaw's most important children's medical facilities.
Inspiration
The Clinic for Bone Marrow Transplantation, Oncology and Paediatric Haematology treats some of the most seriously ill children in the region. The WOŚP foundation, famous for its annual January fundraising events across Poland, has a long tradition of supporting paediatric healthcare, and commissioning Klaun was a creative expression of that support. Beata Zwolańska-Hołod, who sculpted Klaun, is one of the most prolific creators of Wroclaw dwarfs, with nearly 100 krasnal figures to her name.
