Story
Kolekcjoner crouches on the fourth floor of D.H. Feniks at Rynek 31/32, peering through a magnifying glass at his precious coin collection. This sharp-eyed dwarf lives behind a window high above the Market Square, making him one of the hardest-to-spot dwarfs in all of Wroclaw. They say he started collecting bottle caps as a child but upgraded to coins when he discovered they were a better investment during the dwarf economic downturn. If you look up to the fourth floor and catch a glint of gold, that is Kolekcjoner examining his latest treasure.
History & Significance
Kolekcjoner was sculpted by Beata Zwolanska-Holod and installed in October 2008 on the fourth floor of the D.H. Feniks department store at Rynek 31/32. He was commissioned by the Wroclawskie Centrum Kolekcjonerskie (Wroclaw Collector Centre), a numismatic shop located on the same floor. As one of the dwarfs placed inside commercial buildings, Kolekcjoner represents the growing tradition of businesses sponsoring their own unique dwarf mascots.
Inspiration
Kolekcjoner celebrates the world of numismatics and the Wroclawskie Centrum Kolekcjonerskie, a specialist coin and collectibles shop on the fourth floor of D.H. Feniks. The shop deals in collector coins, medals, and decorations from around the world. A Polish record was even set at this location -- a pyramid built from 60,000 nickel coins. The dwarf holds a golden coin, symbolising the passion and precision of collectors everywhere.
