Story
Krasnalka Wandzia greets visitors with a wave. She has long, wavy hair spilling out from under her pointed cap, a warm, slightly crooked smile and a thick rope-like cord looped around her neck and down her front. She is a friendly neighbour rather than a worker with a tool, and behind her the photo shows a green, park-like area with autumn leaves.
History & Significance
Krasnalka Wandzia stands at Jastrzębia 26 in Borek. The sculptor is listed as Marlena Zakrzewska, and wromap.pl gives 14 July 2022 as the date it appeared. The dwarf tradition began in 2001, when the Orange Alternative monument (Papa Krasnal) was unveiled on Świdnicka street, and the city has kept adding bronze dwarfs ever since. The sources I found do not say who commissioned or sponsored it.
Inspiration
The sources I found do not explain who Wandzia is or why she was placed at Jastrzębia 26, and no sponsor is named. Wandzia is a Polish girl's name; any link to a particular person would be a guess, so none is made here. What is clear is the welcoming wave.
