Story

Maratończycy (the Marathon Runners) are a pair of running dwarfs at al. Ignacego Jana Paderewskiego 35 in Zacisze-Zalesie-Szczytniki. In the photo the front runner wears a number 35 on his chest bib and looks fierce, with a huge moustache and a wild beard, while a second runner jogs behind him with one hand out. They seem to be heading for the finish line together.

History & Significance

wromap.pl lists Maratończycy at al. Ignacego Jana Paderewskiego 35 with the sculptor Beata Zwolańska-Hołod and the appearance date of 9 September 2017. We found no second source for the date. The Polish Wikipedia list of dwarfs gives the same address, Paderewskiego 35, as the location of the Stadion Olimpijski (the Olympic Stadium) for neighbouring dwarfs, but it does not list this dwarf, so we cannot say who commissioned him.

Inspiration

The name means marathon runners, and the running pose and number bib in the photo match it. The bib number 35 is the same as the street number of the address, though we do not know if that is deliberate.

Fun Facts

  • wromap.pl gives 9 September 2017 as their appearance date.
  • The front runner wears the number 35 on his bib in the photo.

  • The address, al. Ignacego Jana Paderewskiego 35, is also given by Polish Wikipedia as the location of the Stadion Olimpijski for the neighbouring dwarfs.
  • Biegajło is 73 m to the south.
