Story
Mellonik sits in the Powstańców Śląskich area, about 1.7 km south-west of the Market Square, in a calm, studious pose. The photo shows a bearded dwarf in a cap with a pointed top, seated against green panels and holding a flat, tray-like object across his lap, his eyes cast down as if reading or counting. His name sounds like Mellon, and Wikipedia lists the BNY Mellon company next to him, so imagine a quiet accountant of the dwarf world, checking the figures one last time.
History & Significance
Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful, non-violent protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls. Since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them. wromap.pl credits the sculptor Agata Gwizd-Leszczyńska and dates him to 30 December 2013, with the address Powstańców Śląskich 13. Polish Wikipedia's list agrees on the sculptor, but gives the address Swobodna 1 and names BNY Mellon and the Aquarius Business House next to him. The two sources disagree on the address, and I could not tell which is current.
Inspiration
Wikipedia links him to BNY Mellon and the Aquarius Business House, and his name, Mellonik, looks like a diminutive of Mellon, so a corporate dedication is likely. That remains an inference: no source I found states the commission in so many words, and the sources disagree on his address.
