Story
Mesio waves hello from the entrance of a modern showroom on ul. Graniczna in Muchobór Wielki. He is a bearded dwarf in a soft cap, caught mid-wave with one arm raised high while the other hand rests on a dark box beside him. He stands on grey paving by a glass wall, so look closely at the base of the entrance. Fotopolska.eu places him at the Mercedes-Benz salon of Grupa Wróbel at Graniczna 4a, a large, bright building that makes an easy landmark.
History & Significance
Mesio was made by sculptor Beata Zwolańska-Hołod and appeared on 19 September 2017, according to wromap.pl and OpenStreetMap. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs trace back to the Orange Alternative, a playful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls. Since the early 2000s the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them, many in the quieter districts far from the Market Square. We found no source stating who paid for him, although Fotopolska.eu places him at the Mercedes-Benz salon at Graniczna 4a.
Inspiration
No source we found explains the idea behind Mesio or his name. Fotopolska.eu lists him at the Mercedes-Benz salon of Grupa Wróbel, which opened at Graniczna 4a in January 2017 according to a news item, but we found nothing confirming that the salon commissioned him or that the name refers to it, so we leave the meaning open.
