Story

Montessorek can be found at Wrocławska 25, Mokronos Górny, a village just outside Wrocław. The photo on wromap.pl shows a smiling dwarf in a pointed cap who holds a small block in one raised hand beside a tower of stacked blocks. He stands outside Wrocław's city limits; wromap.pl gives the address as being in Mokronos Górny.

History & Significance

No sculptor, sponsor or unveiling date could be found for him. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs trace back to the Orange Alternative, a playful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; the city began commissioning bronze dwarfs in 2005, and local businesses and institutions have added many more since. Montessorek is one of the dwarfs outside the historic centre. Who commissioned this dwarf is not publicly documented in the sources we found.

Inspiration

His name looks like a play on Montessori, the name of a well-known educational method; the stacked blocks fit the idea of learning through play, though no source confirms the link. The sources we found do not describe a specific story behind this dwarf.
