Story
Prufek is one of the smallest dwarfs you will track down, and part of the fun is spotting him. He is a tiny bronze figure in a pointed hat and long beard, standing upright with his arms at his sides on a paved area right beside a glass door and a steel ash bin at ul. Tyniecka 17 in Oporów. From a few steps away he can look like a small garden gnome that wandered onto the forecourt. Walk up slowly, look down and he will appear.
History & Significance
Prufek was made by sculptor Piotr Makała and appeared on 6 October 2017, according to wromap.pl and OpenStreetMap. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs trace back to the Orange Alternative, a playful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls. Since the early 2000s the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them, many in the quieter districts far from the Market Square. We found no source naming who commissioned him.
Inspiration
No source we found explains the idea behind Prufek or his name. The statue shows a small, upright dwarf with a long beard, standing at a business entrance, but we do not know what the business is, and the name is not explained anywhere we could find, so we do not guess.
