Story

Pchorek is a little soldier in a beret with a Polish eagle badge. In the photo he squints with a cheeky half-smile, a rifle held at his side and his uniform collar neatly turned out, with a brick wall behind him. He looks like a recruit who has just been told to stand guard and is rather proud of it.

History & Significance

Pchorek stands at ul. Piotra Czajkowskiego 109 in the Karłowice-Różanka area, according to wromap.pl, which names no sculptor and gives no appearance date. Wrocław's dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; the first bronze dwarf was placed on ul. Świdnicka in 2001, and hundreds have followed since. We found no source that tells who commissioned Pchorek or which unit or institution he is linked to.

Inspiration

Pchorek's beret with an eagle badge and his rifle mark him as a soldier. His name sounds like pchor, a Polish short form for an officer cadet (podchorąży), but we found no source that confirms the link, so treat it as a guess. The reason for his location is not documented.

Fun Facts

  • His beret carries a Polish eagle badge.
  • He holds a rifle at his side.
  • wromap.pl names no sculptor and no date for him.
  • His name may echo pchor, short for podchorąży (officer cadet); no source confirms it.
  • The nearest dwarf in our database, Planetuś, is about 665 m away.
