Story

Pilotek is a dwarf aviator in a leather flying cap with goggles pushed up on his forehead, found at bulwar Ikara 19 in Gądów-Popowice Południowe. In the photo he looks down with a kindly, slightly sly face and a long beard, and he stands in what looks like a school corridor with white walls and a wooden banister behind him. He seems ready to take off at any moment.

History & Significance

wromap.pl lists Pilotek at bulwar Ikara 19 with the sculptor Beata Zwolańska-Hołod and the appearance date of 14 February 2009. The Polish Wikipedia list of Wrocław dwarfs names the same sculptor and ties the dwarf to Szkoła Podstawowa nr 118 im. płk. pil. Bolesława Orlińskiego (Primary School no. 118 named after the pilot Colonel Bolesław Orliński), so the two sources agree. We did not find who paid for him.

Inspiration

The name Pilotek means a little pilot, and the street, bulwar Ikara, is named after Icarus, the mythical figure who flew. The school he belongs to is named after a pilot, so the theme is flying throughout.
