Story

Rozkwietnik is Wroclaw's most unconventional dwarf - he has a mohican. While other gnomes wear traditional pointy hats, Rozkwietnik sports a bold punk crest and sails a little boat, because he lives in the Nadodrzе district by the Odra river. He was designed by the children of the 'Youth in Action' project, making him perhaps the only dwarf in Wroclaw created by young hands rather than professional sculptors - a true symbol of youthful energy and the fight against urban greyness.

History & Significance

Rozkwietnik appeared on 1 August 2013 on ul. Kreta 1/3 in Nadodrzе, next to the LOCUS Centre for Sustainable Community Development. He was created by sculptors Marta Mirynowska and Piotr Makala, working with children from the 'Mlodz w Dzialaniu' (Youth in Action) European programme. The workshops took place at a magical outdoor venue called Osada Gaj.

Inspiration

The Nadodrzе district (riverside north of the Old Town) was one of Wroclaw's most creative and community-driven neighbourhoods in the 2010s, undergoing significant regeneration. The name 'Rozkwietnik' comes from 'rozkwitac' (to blossom) and 'rozkwit' (flowering, flourishing) - perfectly capturing the regeneration spirit of the area. His mohican hairstyle and boat reflect the youthful, rebellious creativity of the local community.
