Story
Telecław is online, always. He holds his laptop high like a trophy, its screen showing a tiny skyline and the curved bars of a Wi-Fi signal, and his beard drips like a waterfall down his chest. Dwarfs nearby say he has never been disconnected, not even in a thunderstorm. If your phone shows a weak signal, stand beside him and see whether it helps - the dwarfs swear it does.
History & Significance
Telecław stands at Generała Romualda Traugutta 55 and is credited to sculptor Beata Zwolańska-Hołod. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful, non-violent protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has been filling its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them. We found no installation date and no sponsor for him. Millenniowski, who stands at the same address and appeared on 18 March 2022, is a separate dwarf by Tomasz Moczek.
Inspiration
The name joins tele- (as in telephone or telecommunications) with the old Polish name ending -cław, and the photo fits that idea: the laptop screen shows two tall buildings and a Wi-Fi symbol. No source we found spells out the intention, so this is our reading of what the photo shows.
