Story
Trzynastek is a dwarf who looks like he has walked a very long way and found it worthwhile. He wears a floppy brimmed hat, a thick beard and an old coat with something slung over his shoulder, and his eyes are half-closed in a serene, tired smile. Dwarf rumour says he counts to thirteen every night before sleeping and has never once got to fourteen. Sit by him a moment and see how far you get.
History & Significance
Trzynastek appeared on 10 June 2016 at Haukego-Bosaka 33 and was made by Tomasz Moczek, who made the first five dwarfs on the Rynek in 2005. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful, non-violent protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has been filling its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them. We found no sponsor and do not name one.
Inspiration
The name echoes trzynaście, the Polish word for thirteen; the house number here is 33, not 13, and we found no source that explains the link, so we do not claim one. In the photo he wears a floppy brimmed hat and a thick beard, and something that looks like a bag or bundle is slung over his shoulder.
